What is First AC in Indian Railways – First AC Class in train is an unique experience to travel. Although it is quite expensive, sometimes more than the flight but the comfort it provides is unmatched. Lets check out why it is so special…
Seating Arrangements – There are two types of seating arrangements in 1st ac, one is known as Cabin and the other one as Coupe. Cabin comprises of 4 berths while Coupe has 2 berths. Coupe is more like a private room which is very convenient for couples.
Facilities – If you are a traveller who prefers less crowded coaches then First AC Class is the right place for you. You will find a nice gallery. There is a shower facility and the toilets are quite clean. Every Cabin and Coupe has a button to call the stewards so do avail that service. For added security sliding doors are provided in each Cabin and Coupe.
Allotment of Berths – Unlike other classes the confirmed 1st AC ticket do not give any berth or cabin confirmation. The Cabin/Coupe confirmation are sent to the passenger via SMS on the day of the travel. Passenger will receive an SMS 5-6 hours prior to the journey.
The size of Berth in First Ac is quite bigger then both Second and Third AC Class
Although during reservation one can choose the preferred type of seating on either Cabin or Coupe however, there is no guarantee for the same. The Allotments of berth is done by computer as per the algorithm.
Priority is always given to VIP’s, after that Senior Citizens and then the general passenger. So it is pure luck if you get a coupe in 1st ac. Also I have heard that on the day of the journey if a passenger visits the boarding station and request for specific seating to the station master then there might be some chance to get the preferred seat but I am not sure about it.
Meals – While you get full course meals on Rajdhani Express as the meal price is already included with the ticket but on other trains passenger’s have to purchase the same from the Rail Pantry Car.
