How is Delhi Durga Puja Different from Kolkata – Whenever we think of Durga Puja Kolkata always strikes us first. However do you know that Durga Puja in Delhi, Mumbai and many big cities is celebrated by the Probashi Bengali’s with great pomp and show.

Probashi Bengali means those who have roots in Bengal but does not stay in Bengal any more.

Durga Puja in Delhi starts with Anando Mela which means Happiness Carnival where Bengali ladies bring delicious home cooked food in puja stalls.

You can buy this food from the stall itself and enjoy. This fair is held mostly on Panchami Day (5th day of pooja). The best food stalls are selected by the jury for prizes.

On Astami day dhunuchi ntritya or dance competition sets the tone.

Cultural programs are a great attraction here which starts from Shasti (6th day) till navami (9th day) every evening.

On the last day of Durga Puja which is Dashami married Bengali women do Debi Boron. In Debi Boron Bengali ladies offer sweets, sindur and other puja items to Maa Durga and other idols to bid them adieu.

After that they play Sindur Khela where Bengali ladies smear faces of each other with vermilion.
